What is a parish pastoral council?

Parish Council Purpose:

1. To advise and assist the Pastor in fostering the pastoral activity of St John the Baptist Catholic Church. 
2. To promote and advance programs and activities recommended or presented by the Diocesan Bishop.


Parish Council Activities:

1. To identify the apostolic needs of the parish and propose means whereby those needs can be met.
2. To encourage, through reflection, prayer, and planning, those ministries or services that are needed for the growth of a living parish community, evaluated and implemented on a regular basis.
3. To take leadership, under the direction of the Pastor, in the coordination, motivation, support, and evaluation of pastoral activities in the parish.

Membership:

Membership on the Parish Pastoral Council is open to all persons who are at least 18 years of age, registered in the parish, are in full communion with the Catholic Church, have received all three Sacraments of Initiation, actively participate in the life and work of the parish and, if married, be in a valid marriage. Appointed and/or elected members serve a two-year term. These members may be re-appointed/re-elected but may serve only two terms consecutively.
