St. John's Consort

One of two ensembles dedicated to providing music for the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (Tridentine Mass), the St. John’s Consort sings the Mass on the third Sunday of each month (12:30pm). This ensemble is conducted by Dr. Jeffrey Alban and performs mostly polyphonic Masses and motets from the Renaissance period.

Instituted in October, 2008, this ensemble has sung works such as William Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices and Tómas Luís de Victoria’s Missa “O magnum mysterium.” In February, 2009, the Consort was joined by the Saint John’s Singers to sing the Messe Solennelle, Op. 36 by Louis Vierne for the last Mass celebrated by Rev. Christopher Pollard as parochial vicar of the parish.

The consort currently has thirty-two volunteer members from the parish. New singers, ages 14 and older, are welcome. There are no auditions, and no previous singing experience is necessary. Rehearsals are scheduled for every Wednesday from 7:45 — 9:00pm in Fr. Ruehl Hall.
